A passionate yet subtly modulated performance by Chad Ryan drives this 20th-anniversary staging of David Drake's solo show about queer life in 1980s New York. Chronicling the experiences of a gay man who came of age in the early days of the AIDS epidemic, Drake's Whitmanesque monologue rages against prejudice and indifference, celebrates love and friendship, mourns the deaths of friends and lovers, and revels in eroticism while confronting sexual compulsion. Though he's far too young to have experienced the events Drake describes, Ryan inhabits the material with deep understanding. —Albert Williams
