Since appearing in a 1957 issue of Playboy, George Langelaan's short story about a scientist transforming into a fly has spawned a swarm of adaptations: film versions starring Vincent Price and Jeff Goldblum, their various sequels, even a full opera. This ponderous stage adaptation, written and directed by Glenese Hand and Cody Evans-Gan, follows the Goldblum plot closely. Amid the stilted performances and confusing plot turns, Hand's delightfully grotesque makeup work is the one showstopper. In Bare Knuckle Productions' walk-in closet of a performance space, Jack Sharkey's blaring, manic portrayal of the afflicted scientist quickly becomes unbearable; his repeated, energetic nude scenes, viewed from a distance of several feet, put a new spin on the term "body horror." —Keith Griffith
