The Mountain Between Us

Rated PG-13 · 111 minutes · 2017

Adventure, Drama
A hardened photojournalist (Kate Winslet), grounded by bad weather at an Idaho airport, partners with a British neurosurgeon (Idris Elba) to hire a private plane, and after it crashes in Utah's frozen Uinta Mountains, they face injuries, exposure, dwindling supplies, and wild animals. They fall in love too, but if I were in their shoes, I'd be thinking Donner party, not pajama party. Palestinian firebrand Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now) directed a script by Hollywood hands Chris Weitz (About a Boy) and J. Mills Goodloe (Everything, Everything); these might seem like strange bedfellows, yet the movie works as far-fetched escapism with some genuinely moving moments.
