In 1964 in a small Arab village in Galilee a teacher is wrongfully arrested by the Israeli military governor for forging work permits, and outrage and confusion strain relations between the village leader's son and a metalsmith, both of whom have a personal stake in the revelation of the real forger's identity. A deep, familylike connection between the metalsmith and the village fool, who's not quite content with his reputation and whose exploits provide our entry into the story, is savored in this richly emotional drama about how a community deals with internal strife under the pressure of outside domination. Written by Ghalib Sha'ath and director Ali Nassar; with Muhammad Bakri and Suheil Haddad.
