Washington Irving's spooky tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman is told by Brian Pastor, with help from three assistants who serve as musicians, sound effects artists, and prop masters. A ghost story needs to cast a spell, but some of the devices used in this adaptation by Pastor and director Stephen Murray--frequent musical interludes, ruminations on real-life sources, and rooting around in the grandma's-attic-like set for toys and such to illustrate the action--interrupt the narrative rather than augment it. Still, Murray and Pastor find a nice galloping momentum that carries through from the climactic chase scene to the end. --Zac Thompson
