Marz Timms and Angela McMahon found a great source for holiday comedy in the Dutch Santa Claus and his Moorish servant, Zwarte Piet (Black Peter), who reward good children with treats and spirit the bad ones away to Spain. But this slapdash show could do a lot more to mix its creepy and goofy elements--the latter mostly consisting of every Dutch joke you can imagine, including a character munching a windmill cookie. Chris Redd brings an amusing streetwise edge to Zwarte Piet, but the racial dynamic between him and Jeff Taylor as an authoritarian Sinterklaas lacks satirical bite. I did, however, laugh hard at the bit where a kid, waking up to discover a mitered Saint Nick at his bedside, screams in horror, "Mom! There’s a priest in my room!" --Kerry Reid
