The Legend of Ginger Bred: A Story of Sex, Salvation, and Baked Goods

When: Thursdays-Saturdays. Continues through March 20 2010
Price: $15
Abuse, drug addiction, and a child-porn ring specializing in food fetishes take the place of hungry mobs in this raunchy update on the Gingerbread Man fairy tale from Cock and Bull Theatre. Maggie Graham stands out in a talented cast as Ginger, using her leggy charm and impeccable timing to spin hilarity from dark themes. Live music and multimedia projections blend seamlessly into the show, which is structured as a bizarre stream-of-consciousness lounge act. But the single flaw in Chris Garcia Peak's script proves fatal. After jerking from incident to incident, the play doesn't so much end as dissolve. Without a real plot, an otherwise excellent experience becomes so much icing on a, uh, cookie--a guilty, empty pleasure. --Keith Griffith
