Dear Reader,

I think Peter Margasak wrote badly about Veruca Salt [Rock Etc., October 7]. Instead of being proud of a Chicago band getting attention, he sounds jealous and puts them down. Maybe he likes someone else's music better, which is OK. But if a local band does good and can make a living from their music, that is OK too. It encourages young people. He should understand that they are popular because some people do like their music and he should not call it hype. It is all right to praise them for being successful.

I am 13 and will sign my name M.P., Oak Park. I hope you print my letter. Thanks.
