Action/Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
Taken from the Rudyard Kipling stories, this Alexander Korda production completes a loose trilogy with his Elephant Boy (1937) and The Thief of Bagdad (1940); unfortunately, it lacks both the documentary interest of the former and the entertaining stylization of the latter. In this one, Sabu—the Shirley Temple of British imperialism—grows up in the jungle and catches a trio of crooks. It's a formless, often dull time, but the verdant Technicolor (shot by Lee Garmes) gives it a nice gloss. With Joseph Calleia, Rosemary de Camp, and John Qualen; directed by Andre de Toth and Zoltan Korda.
