Comedy, Suspense/Thriller
This tiresome French spy spoof (2008) stars Jeanne Balibar (The Duchess of Langeais) as a ditzy widow who dreams of becoming an opera star; because her late husband was suspected of trafficking uranium, undercover agents infiltrate her voice class to determine whether she was involved in his crimes. The thin conceit cracks under the weight of the eccentric characters, gender-bending promiscuity, outbursts of graphic violence, and shallow reflections on age and beauty. The shaky handheld camera proves irritating, but worse is the fact that few of the actors can carry a tune. Ilan Duran Cohen directed; with Marina Fois and Nathalie Richard. In French with subtitles. 99 min.
