An aspiring restaurateur is offered $25,000 to be a surrogate mother. Her brother, a Cadillac-collecting anthropologist, disapproves. Her roommate just wants to get married. These are only a few of the precious “quirky” characters in this halfhearted food movie that's also a romantic comedy crammed with issues. One main theme: bigotry is bad. Another: people should marry for love. Gregory Ruzzin directed a screenplay by Fred Dresch and Ron Ratliff, based on a novel by Lynn Scott Myers.
