Romance, Science fiction
Twilight author Stephenie Meyer wrote the source novel for this sci-fi adventure, which speaks to the 14-year-old girl in all of us (well, not me). After space aliens arrive on earth and commandeer nearly every human body—break out the iridescent contact lenses—a young woman (Saoirse Ronan) finds herself sharing her own skin with an alien. A daring escape enables her to hide in the desert with a rebel colony of humans that has learned how to grow wheat in a subterranean cave and is populated with impossibly cute boys. As in Twilight, a romantic triangle ensues, with the amusing twist that each of her inhabiting selves loves a different guy (Max Irons, Jake Abel); the voices arguing in her head generate a lot of unintended comedy. Andrew Niccol (Gattaca) directed, which means that every interior is sparer than a Danish art museum; with Diane Kruger, William Hurt, and Frances Fisher.
