The Haunted Mansion

After the bloated Pirates of the Caribbean, I wasn't exactly looking forward to another Disney feature based on a theme-park ride, but this one never tries to be anything more than a high-powered spook show. Eddie Murphy (who's beginning to make Fred MacMurray look like a badass) plays a New Orleans real estate agent who drags his long-suffering family along to inspect a decaying mansion and finds it teeming with ghosts. Hidden in the attic is a portrait of the owner's long lost sweetheart, who bears a striking resemblance to Murphy's wife (now there's a new one). Terence Stamp and Wallace Shawn spend a fair amount of time skulking around as ghostly servants, which kept me amused for the movie's 99 minutes. Rob Minkoff (The Lion King) directed. PG.
