The Hangover

Todd Phillips is no artist, but his lowbrow comedies (Road Trip, Old School) always hit the mark because they're so psychologically true: the superego tries to control the id, but the id gets drunk and barfs all over it. In this hilarious third feature, four guys from LA (Justin Bartha, Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis) drive to Las Vegas for a bachelor party; the next morning three of them come to in their trashed hotel suite to discover that the groom is missing and they're now in possession of a chicken, a baby, and a real live tiger. Waking up with a hangover and no memory of what happened the night before is an experience most people can relate to, but it's also a surefire device for comedy. As the three guys search for the groom and piece together the previous night's events, almost everything they remember turns out to be something they'd rather forget. With Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, and Mike Tyson. R, 100 min.
