Malcolm McLaren, the rock 'n' roll huckster who assembled the Sex Pistols, was the driving force behind this 1980 feature, a mock history of the band that portrays him as a brilliant Svengali. The Pistols begged to differ, and two decades later the surviving members recruited the same director, Julien Temple, to direct their account, The Filth and the Fury (2000)—in the process helping themselves to all the good footage from Swindle.
