Celia's breakfast consists of a banana on a plate. She cuts it in half with a knife before eating it. Her Paris apartment is sleek and monochromatic, with fresh daffodils for accent. The furniture is white. An expatriot Brit, she supplements her trust fund by giving one-on-one English lessons. No doubt about it—she knows her conjugations. Everything about the tightly wound title character of Craig Higginson's 2010 play screams "major blockage!" But Celia is so gorgeous that admiring student Pierre doesn't notice. And in any case, he's got significant blockages of his own. What could be a smash-up romance comes across as a literary contrivance in Joanie Schultz's staging. Though Schultz gets some heat out of Carrie Coon's Celia and Austin Talley's Pierre, it's not enough to steam up that nice apartment. —Tony Adler
