Horror, Suspense/Thriller
"Death, Be Not Boring" would have been a better title for this fourth installment in the teen splatter franchise. The formula involves several characters narrowly escaping death, only to be hunted down later by an invisible Grim Reaper and killed in freakish accidents. This time the daisy chain of doom begins at a stock car race, from which four youngsters and as many adults flee just before a bargain-basement CGI disaster takes out half the crowd. They get theirs, but the Rube Goldberg variations are repetitive and devoid of the visual snap that helped distinguish James Wong’s Final Destination (2000). Director David R. Ellis (Snakes on a Plane) neglects the basics of his craft in favor of in-your-face 3-D folderol. Lots of people do get killed, though. R, 86 min.
