The Farnsworth Invention | TimeLine Theatre Company | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Wednesdays-Sundays. Continues through July 24 2010
Price: $15-$35
With a rapid-fire storytelling style reminiscent of The West Wing--the TV show he created, produced, and mostly wrote--Aaron Sorkin follows the lives of two television trailblazers: Iowa farmboy Philo T. Farnsworth and media mogul David Sarnoff. For decades, the two men fought for the patent rights to television, using everything from groundbreaking science to corporate espionage to gain a leg up on each other. In this Timeline Theatre production, PJ Powers plays Sarnoff, the tenacious founder of the National Broadcasting Company, with a caustic panache worthy of Entourage's infamous Ari Gold, while his corn-fed foil gets a passionate, sympathetic portrayal from Rob Fagin. Though they never met in real life, Farnsworth and Sarnoff narrate each other's lives with keen insight and grudging respect. --Marissa Oberlander
