Swedish maid Loretta Young revolts against her boss and beau, Joseph Cotten, by running for his seat in Congress. Young affected an accent in this 1947 feature and accordingly won an Academy Award, although she's far from her charming early-30s best. H.C. Potter, the director, was a fair-to-middlin' studio functionary, but the film's blend of politics and romance seems to require something more than Potter's passive pleasantness. Where's Frank Capra when you need him? With Ethel Barrymore, Charles Bickford, and Rose Hobart. 97 min.
