Action, Adventure, Historical Drama
This fine historical adventure is set in 140 AD in ancient Brittannia, where a noble Roman (Channing Tatum) and his feisty British slave (Jamie Bell) travel past "the end of the world"—Hadrian's Wall in northern England—to recover a Golden Eagle emblem lost by the Roman's father when his legion was destroyed by British "savages." The story comes from a young adult novel by Rosemary Sutcliff, but director Kevin Macdonald (Touching the Void) gives it the feel of a great 70s Western. Exciting and even moving, this robust epic is filled with action, male bonding, and a terrifying sense of wilderness.
