THE CREDEAUX CANVAS | In Keith Bunin's 2001 play, Jean-Paul Credeaux is an obscure fin de siecle French artist whose enigmatic work three hungry young East Village bohos hope to exploit. The scam seems easy enough: pretty Amelia will pose for a Credeaux-style portrait, nerdy Winston will paint it, and slick Jamie will sell it to a rich art collector. This Circle Theatre production delivers intense if mannered performances that amplify Bunin's intelligent, articulate insights into human desire, desperate folly, and the power of art to illuminate the truth in merciless detail. Through 10/31: Fri-Sat 8 PM, Sun 3 PM, Thu 10/14, 21, and 28, 8 PM. Circle Theatre, 7300 W. Madison, Forest Park, 708-771-0700. $20-$22.
