Chasing a utopian dream, two disaffected artists flee Mexico City and head for the beach, but they find themselves bumping up against the harsh reality of industrial pollution and small-town corruption. A funky countercultural vibe infuses this 1971 Mexican feature, though writer-director Alfredo Joskowicz doesn't hesitate to reveal how deluded his hippie heroes are: they don't know the first thing about fishing or farming, and they're surprised that the rural folk don't immediately embrace them. With its abrupt climax, the movie isn't very satisfying, yet the languorous sequences of life on the beach make this an interesting time capsule. In Spanish with subtitles. 87 min.
