Richard, a former military radio host, tries to outrun a dark secret from his past. Les, a man with terminal leukemia, hopes to make something of his final days by enlisting in a deadly army experiment. A decade later his widow, Jessica, tries to keep their cancer-stricken 12-year-old son alive. These and other intriguing story lines wind through Jackalope Theatre's new drama, but cowriters Chance Bone and Andrew Burden Swanson struggle to find an efficient way to turn them into a chronologically intelligible story. While a few scenes are riveting—especially those featuring the mercurial Brad Smith as Les—director Jonathan Berry's lackadaisical pacing impedes momentum for much of the two-hour-plus running time. The final revelation of Richard's transgressions feels overcooked. —Justin Hayford
