The Caine Mutiny

Despite a few flashes of talent in the 40s, Edward Dmytryk had descended to hack status by the time he filmed this 1954 version of Herman Wouk's novel, and his ham-fisted direction does little to alleviate the obviousness of the drama and the thinness of the characterizations. With Jose Ferrer, Fred MacMurray, Van Johnson, and Humphrey Bogart in a strained performance as the neurotic Captain Queeg. 125 min.
