Drama, Horror
Three college students move into a spooky house off-campus and accidentally conjure up the title demon in this laughably bad horror film, which derives much of its humor from the evil one's infantile name and the characters' unbelievable fear of repeating it. The script teems with horror clichés (scribbled drawings, a creepy kid, the skeptical protagonist looking up the demon's origins on a library computer), and everything from the acting to the makeup to the special effects is atrocious. Worst of all is the irresponsible insinuation that the Bye Bye Man causes seemingly ordinary people to commit evil acts, with references to "Columbine kids" and school shooters in general. Stacy Title directed; with Douglas Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Faye Dunaway (why?).
