The Brides of Ghost Hunter Richard Crowe: The John Dillinger Edition

When: Wed., July 22, 8 p.m. 2009
Though it purports to be the true tale of Depression-era celebrity criminal John Dillinger as related by the women in his life, this collection of ghost stories and gangster lore feels more like a stationary version of Richard Crowe's Chicago Supernatural bus tour. The script includes a retelling of how Dillinger died outside the Biograph Theater, but director Michael Flores (who also provides a genial everyschlub narration) and his three blond assistants also find time to discuss the demon baby of Hull House, the Saint Valentine's Day massacre, and the host of spirits residing in Chinatown. The whole thing reeks of corn, and longtime Chicagoans have heard these stories before. On the other hand, it's performed in a bar--a haunted one, natch--so at least you can get a drink. --Zac Thompson
