The Brewprints Part One: 40 Scenes on Hops | Drinking & Writing Theater @ Haymarket Pub & Brewery | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Wednesdays, Saturdays. Continues through Nov. 20 2013
Price: $15
The first installment of Drinking & Writing Brewery's tetralogy celebrating the four ingredients of beer (hops, water, yeast, and grain) is an odd but endearing collection of stories, songs, spoken word, short films, and quite a few pieces that defy categorization, all centered around hops. Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda have done their research well, and there's tons of trivia about the bittering agent packed into the show—though it goes by so fast that you'll be lucky to remember half of it. The whole thing is unabashedly goofy; at one point Mosqueda is telling a touching story about his mom, and a few minutes later he's taking a bite of a hop and spitting it out—"Hops. Tasty. No. Shit. No." It's a testament to the pair's powers of entertainment that the show ran half an hour longer than the expected 70 minutes, and I had no idea until I checked the time. —Julia Thiel
