Comedy, Documentary
Eddie Pepitone has performed stand-up comedy for more than 30 years, but his volatile and offbeat style has kept him in relative obscurity his entire career. Consequently, he's earned the reputation of being a "comic's comic," meaning he has the respect and admiration of his peers while the general public has no clue who the hell he is. This documentary chronicles the ups and downs of Pepitone's life as a comic's comic, including his encounters with fellow comedians whose growing success fuels his discontent. (There are more than a few terse exchanges between Pepitone and the ever-contentious Marc Maron.) While it's not the most formally advanced doc, there's enough material here to paint an endearing portrait of a Bukowskian curmudgeon whose story runs deeper than the mystique that surrounds him. Steven Feinartz directed.
