There are no categories in this curated contest. Veteran and newbie choreographers compete on the same, um, footing--and last year, at the AWARD Show's debut outing, that resulted in some surprises. Adding a $10,000 payday for the winner ups the drama; on Saturday the audience favorites from the first three nights go up against one another for the big bucks. Among the vets this year is Mike Gosney, whose melancholy Curiosity, premiered last spring by his Elements Contemporary Ballet, is the only entry danced on pointe. Other familiar faces: Peter Carpenter, offering an excerpt from his sly deconstruction of the Reagan era, My Fellow Americans; Molly Shanahan, delivering a new iteration of her ongoing project, Stamina of Curiosity; and Joanna Rosenthal of Same Planet Different World Dance Theatre, riffing on film-noir aggression and paranoia in Grey Noise. Fledgling dancemakers Kate Corby, Michel Rodriguez, and Jacqueline Stewart have done promising work; the question marks from this handicapper's point of view are Mary Tisa, Philip Elson, Alicia Wilson, Rebecca Lemme, and the duo of Ginger Krebs and Andy Braddock. --Laura Molzahn
