Re: “The Heartland in Crisis

I hate to say this, but their financial turmoil seems to mirror the vibe I get every time I've gone in there for the past five years. Don't get me wrong -- the food is generally good -- but the people at the front counter, as well as the majority of the waitstaff I've dealt with, just don't seem to "get" their jobs -- nor do they seem particularly professional or enthusiastic. It's not so much that they are rude or impolite. It's just a general lack of awareness and interest when it comes to their importance as the face of The Heartland.

A few of the folks at the front counter look like they've been nipping at the bar, and one woman in particular gave me the distinct impression that she had some major substance issues -- yet no one there apparently thinks that might be bad for business?!

Given what I've seen, the "not really understanding how banks work" line doesn't surprise me -- because they obviously don't understand how successful restaurants work either.

I don't mean to hate on The Heartland, but this news just doesn't surprise me. I don't want to see them close, and I don't want to see them turn into some upscale something another that isn't them. At the same time, however, I think there's room to clean things up a bit, be more professional, have a real business mission -- and yet stay true to their roots.
