Terrifying Perspectives

Dear Editor:

Your film critic Fred Camper opines (09/06/02) that footage of the smoke of the burning World Trade Center towers in the movie WTC Uncut was "hypnotic, terrifying, yet beautiful." I doubt a Cantor Fitzgerald broker on the 95th floor who jumped, or a Windows on the World cook burning to death, thought the smoke was "beautiful." Perhaps Mr. Camper's take on this "iconic imagery" would be less lyrical if he saw it through the eyes of the WTC victims, rather than from the numbing vantage point of a culture critic.
