This is a past event.
The Gift Theatre kicks off its new season with a kind of sampler platter—a free evening of ten short works, including one amuse-bouche apiece by the writers (Laura Marks, Noah Haidle, and Marco Ramirez) whose full-length plays will be staged at the theater this year. Also on the bill are new playlets by friends of the Gift like Philip Dawkins and Will Eno, as well as glimpses of the theater's reading series, improv team, and high school apprenticeship program. The first half of the evening is mostly funny, the second half mostly elegiac, and the whole is mostly wonderful. The standout comes from the high schoolers: a smart, touching, flat-out hilarious sketch about teenage outcasts cleaning up after a dance. —Zac Thompson
