Taste of Chicago runs Friday, June 26, through Sunday, July 5, in Grant Park, from 11 AM till 9 PM every day. In addition to food from more than five dozen restaurants, the festival presents music on three stages: the Fun Time Stage, southeast of Michigan and Jackson; the Taste Stage, at Columbus and Balbo; and the Petrillo Music Shell, northeast of Columbus and Jackson. (Best Buy is also sponsoring a music stage at Lake Shore Drive and Jackson, but its lineup hadn’t been announced at press time.) The big Petrillo shows are mostly lowest-common-denominator fare, but a few sets ought to be worthwhile, including Ne-Yo and Keri Hilson on Wednesday, July 1, and Buddy Guy and Booker T. & the Drive-By Truckers on Saturday, July 4. The Taste Stage has the festival’s most promising bookings, thanks to a series of showcases where local labels will strut their stuff. On Saturday, June 27, Bloodshot Records presents notorious raunch hound Andre Williams, Dollar Store, the Waco Brothers, and more. For Tuesday, June 30, blues label Earwig has lined up a bill that includes Johnny Drummer, Dave Weld, and Aron Burton with David “Honeyboy” Edwards. And Thrill Jockey’s eclectic roster for Thursday, July 2, is Doug McCombs & David Daniell, the Fred Anderson Trio, Bobby Conn, Eleventh Dream Day, and 8 Bold Souls. The Fun Time Stage presents family-friendly entertainment, including music, comedy, storytelling, circus performers, and dance troupes. The festival also presents an international market, a family village, a sports pavilion, and more; Dominick’s Cooking Corner, near Buckingham Fountain, hosts cooking demonstrations and book signings, including an appearance by Emeril Lagasse on Friday, June 26. Admission and all concerts are free throughout the festival. Food and drink are sold only by tickets, which cost $8 per dozen. —Peter Margasak
