To the editors:

Thank you for the wonderful tribute to Mike Tappin that appeared in the October 9 issue. Mike always valued the artistic license that came with a Reader assignment, so it isn't surprising that many of his favorite images resulted from this work. So many people were touched by Mike's photographs over the years that I would like to point out two opportunities to honor his memory.

First, an informal remembrance and celebration of Mike's life and art will be held at the HotHouse, at 31 E. Balbo, on Thursday, November 5, from 5:30 to 8 PM. Remembrances will be at 6, so please contact me at 773-388-8456 if you would like to share something of your experience with Mike and/or his work with those gathered. Friends, colleagues, clients, and others who simply appreciated Mike's work are welcome to attend.

Second, a scholarship fund has been established for Chicago public school students to attend classes at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Mike loved these classes when he was a kid!). Contributions should be made payable to the Mike Tappin Memorial Fund and sent to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, attn: Ellen Struve, 34 S. Wabash, Chicago, IL 60603.

Again, thank you for your fitting tribute to Mike.
