Thank you for sharing this experience. I have always been a proponent of the idea that people should know from where their food comes, especially when it once had a heartbeat. Your story provides a beautiful glimpse into the experience without being gory or overly descriptive to the point of nausea, but instead introduces us to the reality of taking an animal's life for our pleasure. Not to say that the act of killing was a pleasure, not at all, but ultimately, we do not NEED to eat the pig for sustenance, rather we enjoy it. I did have to take a bit of a break after the first one third of the piece as I had to dry my eyes. Yes, I did weep a bit, but that is good, it means I am human and have a compassion as you obviously do. Well done.
