Taken

Pierre Morel follows his rousing directorial debut, District B13 (2004), with this disposable thriller about a retired American agent in covert operations (Liam Neeson) who goes back into action when sex-slave traffickers in Paris kidnap his teenage daughter (Maggie Grace of the ABC series Lost). His encounters with assorted cops, henchmen, and pimps keep the body count high and the pace brisk, though cowriters Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen (Gladiator) saddle Neeson with indigestible dialogue and preposterous situations (in one scene he shoots a colleague's innocent wife just to make a point). With Famke Janssen. In English and subtitled French. PG-13, 94 min. --Andrea Gronvall
