Swedish House Mafia, Anthony Attalla | United Center | Dance | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Wed., Feb. 20, 8 p.m. 2013
For years now Swedish DJs Steve Agnello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell have been among the world’s biggest names in electronic dance music—and therefore pop music in general—but Americans only really caught on after the three of them came together to form the supergroup Swedish House Mafia in 2008. It’s sort of like if no one in the States had heard of John Lennon or Eric Clapton before the Plastic Ono Band. We’ve been quick to catch up, though, and in late 2011 the trio became the first DJ act to sell out Madison Square Garden. The recent SHM-curated compilation Until Now (Polydor), with its shameless massiveness and unabashed accessibility, goes a long way toward explaining why. After this tour, which kicked off in Dubai and ends next month in LA (which is fast becoming the new global capital of EDM), the group will disband and its members will individually pursue their schemes for world domination. —Miles Raymer Anthony Atalla opens.
