Documentary, Drama, Program
The bulk of this shorts program consists of two half-hour documentaries. Moses Tulasi's Walking the Walk records the first-ever march for transgender people's rights in the Indian state of Telangana; less a report than a celebration of LGBT activism, it's built around spirited testimony from demonstrators. An absorbing real-life mystery, Anirban Mahapatra's Following the Box looks at local artists Jerri Zbiral and Alan Teller, who came into the possession of photos taken by an unknown American in West Bengal in the 1940s and decided to track down exactly where they were shot. Rounding out the program are two narrative shorts: Mansi Jain's drama Lunch Lady, about a woman with an Ivy League education who comes to work in the cafeteria of an inner-city middle school; and Ryan Logan's comedy The First Session, about two Indian women who engage in couples therapy on their first date. In English and subtitled Bengal and Telugu.
