Strange Fits of Passion

A Melbourne bookstore clerk wants to have sex with a stranger who exists mostly in her imagination as this neurotic's romantic comedy gets off to a discouragingly generic start. But about halfway through the movie, the hyperconsciously naive protagonist finds herself in a plot turned intriguingly serious, and writer-director Elise McCredie, transcending all the self-indulgence and pseudointellectuality, finds something unexpected and moving to say. With Michela Noonan. 80 min.
