A plucky and tender portrayal of imagination as a "damned curse," Marie Jones's play is about two small-town Irishmen hoping for their 15 minutes of fame. Brian Vaughn and David Ivers are Charlie, a budding wordsmith, and Jake, who's just back from an unsuccessful go at stardom in New York. As extras in a Hollywood movie come to film in County Kerry, they fill the roles of 15 different characters from the local lush to a mercurial starlet, personifying the villagers' fascination with celluloid's worry-free happy endings (and free lunches at craft service). Sadly, things don't always fade to black on a high note. Under J.R. Sullivan's direction, Ivers and Vaughn display resilience and optimism that skips corny and heads straight to heartwarming. —Marissa Oberlander
