Still Corners, Ganglians, Tiny Fireflies Early Warnings (Music) Recommended The List (Music) Soundboard

Bands that get called "ethereal" or "airy" or "pretty" generally aren't my thing, but for Still Corners I'll gladly make an exception. The main quality that sets this London quartet apart from their peers is the audible restraint in their playing. They sound like they could bring the ruckus if they wanted, but simply chose not to—I can imagine that, under the right circumstances, their mannered dream-pop could erupt into a full-on noise fest a la My Bloody Valentine. And even when the group gets into the kind of atmospheric territory that just begs for someone to use the word "gossamer," beneath it all there's still a melodic framework sturdy enough to support an elephant. —Miles Raymer Ganglians and Tiny Fireflies open.
