This inept 1934 talent showcase from Fox features Warner Baxter as the president's newly appointed Secretary of Amusement, struggling to find entertainment for the Depression-era masses while fending off a cabal of unsympathetic senators. Only Shirley Temple, in one of her earliest roles, brings any relief from the third-rate songs, dreary production numbers, and cringe-worthy black stereotypes (Stepin Fetchit as Baxter's drunken security guard, Tess Gardella doing a musical number as Aunt Jemima). Hamilton MacFadden directed. 69 min.
