Re: “Smith & Wollensky

When we arrived at 8:00 we were 45 min early for our reservation. We checked in thinking we would be sent to the bar, but they found us a table immediately.

The service was quite good, with the single exception of one of the waiters not catching one of our side dish orders. Turned out we were happy for the omission as we ordered too much food as it was. Otherwise the service was excellent without being smothering. The sommelier guided our rather wine-illiterate group to a good but not too expensive choice that everyone approved of.

The steak was quality. The 26 oz. porterhouse will fill up even the heartiest eater. The truffled mac 'n' cheese was a flavorful side dish. And the dessert shooters of various ice creams and sorbets made for a fun way to let everyone share a little taste of many different flavors.

Overall S&W was basically what you would hope for and expect from a high-end steakhouse. The steaks were flavorful, the service on point, and the bill reasonable considering the food and the general cost of such places. $360 for four people with side dishes, main courses, dessert, and wine (and tax and tip) seemed acceptable.

Re: “Miller's Pub

Miller's is a place with an awesome decor, and if you love Chicago and the history of the city you'll feel warm and fuzzy in there. Very good bread before the meal. Small booths and it was quite loud in there when we went. The ribs are still pretty good.

Re: “Calo Ristorante

The food was decent, serviceable Italian. The premeal bread was actually quite good. The main courses were solid, with my gnocchi being spiced up with some pancetta that gave it a kick. However, the service was atrocious. We saw our waitress once when she gave us menus, and once two minutes later when we placed our orders. Our food arrived, we got halfway through the meal, and were sitting with empty drink glasses and empty water glasses. Finally about 35 minutes after we last saw our waitress (well, saw her doing anything other than standing talking to someone) a manager came by and took care of refilling our drinks and our water. While we appreciated his effort to jump in and take care of a problem, that doesn't cover for the fact that the waitstaff is highly inattentive here. Would definitely not go back there.

The food was excellent here. The crusted filet was very tasty. The shrimp and crab bisque was wonderful. Our server was very attentive without ever leaving us feeling as though he was hovering or overprotective. There was nothing earth shattering or highly unique about the food, but for anyone who is out in the suburbs looking for a solid meal that will leave you very full this is a fine choice.

Re: “Marigold

The food here, while pricey, is definitely worth the tab. The calimari appetizer was incredible. All of the entrees came with incredible sauces, especially the chicken tikka. The sauce was creamy, spicy, and delicious. The dessert portions were a bit small, as were the appetizer portions. The service was great, answering all our questions and handling any requests quickly.
