Spielberg's Cop-out

I read Tony Adler's eloquent but biting review of Spielberg's Schindler's List (Dec. 23). I was glad he spared Ben Kingsley, whose performance I thought was right up there with his work in Gandhi.

Recently National Public Radio described the reactions of some Auschwitz survivors in viewing the film. Most of them thought Spielberg showed only about 10% of the horror, which confirms Adler's critical remarks.

However to the director's credit--in the sequence of the storm troopers and dogs bursting through the Krakow ghetto looking for Jews--the scene was so realistic the elderly moviegoers felt they were reliving that terrible experience.
