To the editors:

The Reader article on Handy Andy [Our Town, November 19] reminded me of an old novel I have entitled Handy Andy by Samuel Lover. Needless to say, Handy Andy was clumsy and stupid. His name was Andy Rooney, and one of the illustrations shows him pouring champagne bottles into a tub of ice. He had been asked to chill the champagne.

Samuel Lover's daughter was Fanny Lover. During the 1860s she and her son lived with her father, who was the primal musical and literary influence on the boy whom we know today as Victor Herbert.
