Australian writer Andrew Bovell uses an intricate stories-within-stories structure to explore themes of isolation and interconnectedness in this 1996 drama, presented here by Interrobang Theatre Project. A bout of partner swapping unspools into separate but related tales involving a love-struck stalker and a psychotherapist who goes missing. The script (which Bovell also adapted for the 2001 movie Lantana) initially comes across as intriguingly mysterious and elliptical, but grows more pretentious and predictable with each new Russian-nesting-doll revelation. Still, director Jeffry Stanton gets layered work from his four-person cast in a production featuring moody atmospherics and an appropriately puzzlelike set design by Mike Mroch. —Zac Thompson
