So apparently Amber Holst is the voice of Columbia College!?!

For the second time in less than six months [Hot Type, June 8, January 26], Holst brings her words of wisdom to the pages of the Reader while the fate of the college hinges on it.

As a graduated product of the "audacious urban school with a romantic view of itself" that is "dedicated to second chances," and a former staff member of Columbia Chronicle, I felt as though I was reading a transcript of a telephone conversation and not an in-depth report. It makes Holst look like the only person at Columbia in touch with reality.

Admittedly, I did not agree with some of Carolyn Hulse's decisions and handling of the journalism department, however I did agree with her resignation in response to the hiring of Wade Roberts. His hiring would have given the school a swollen eye and the journalism department a slap in the face.

I just wish the school had handled the recent hiring more carefully, because Columbia is a fine school with a bad rep. There are plenty of members of the teaching staff that are willing to take that extra step to help a student find their way.

But sadly, it's controversy like this in which the school makes the news.
