Pop-culture references come cheap, but Qui Nguyen's 2009 grindhouse-style dramedy is hard to describe by any other means. A partial rundown of the influences includes The Warriors (harrowing escape through gang-controlled New York), Tarantino flicks (nonlinear chapter headings), and The Karate Kid (cryptic, peevish martial-arts master). Director Mitch Golob's gimcrack production for InFusion Theatre Company has its strengths: a solid, versatile cast and an effective multimedia contribution from Liviu Pasare. But it's plagued by lengthy, lethargic fight scenes and a hit-or-miss tone. The death of a protagonist triggered inappropriate giggles at the performance I attended. --Keith Griffith
