Documentary
According to a title card at the beginning of this documentary, roughly 80,000 Chinese adoptees live in the United States; the movie profiles four of them, all teenage girls living in upper-middle-class suburbs. Each comes across as bright and level-headed, expressing satisfaction with her present life while showing interest in her Chinese roots. Their stories might reassure viewers thinking of adopting a child from another country, but they probably won’t hold interest for anyone else. There’s not much interpersonal drama here, and the little that materializes gets promptly resolved. Linda Goldstein Knowlton directed. In English and subtitled Mandarin.
