If you want the reader to be sympathetic of its main character, the reader must like that character. In Gary Jones's case, Mr. Pollack couldn't have picked a worse guy to feel sorry for. Sure, Jones is blind, but he sucks at singing, and anything that prevents him from vocalizing in public is fine by me. Don't get me wrong. I do think Kruesi is a jerk. He would be best serving the CTA if he enforced the no-smoking edict on the platforms with fines. At, let's say, $50 for each offense, he probably could earn enough to let regular riders ride free for a year.
